Abstinence Pledges?

Where ever people go today your most likely to hear about the topic of "sex". Nowadays its just a common conversation people bring up among themselves; but can you blame them? The idea of teen sex and abstinence is everywhere. Whether it's in music or movies teens seemed to be faced with this idea more and more each day. Some say that teenagers who pledge to remain virgins until they are married are most likely to have pre marital sex before marriage then the kids who don't pledge at all. I don't agree with this at all only because if kids are going to want to have pre marital sex; abstinence or not they're going to do it regardless. I don't believe a ring is going to change the mind if a kid of even increase reasons to have sex. Today's society is extremely messed up due to the fact that the government really spent more than 1.5 billion dollars on abstinence programs. Honestly i feel that is ridiculous and that money should go to things more worldly issues than teens putting a ring on their finger to make sure they don't have sex till they're married.  These programs generally do not work probably because they are absolutely absurd. What is even more crazy is that know musicians are promoting this fake idea such as the pop heartthrob group The Jonas Brothers. Recently the members have told the public that they wear their rings as abstinence of sex before they are married.  This just stirs of more controversy the world really does not need. WAKE UP world, we have bigger problems than these silver diamond rings and these programs. These programs are just religion being out on to the public in lieu of programs that actually do work.

  1. I agree with you because wearing an abstinence ring doesn't guarantee purity until marriage. The adolescents that have started wearing the ring are probably following the new trend. The heart throbbing pop band, the Jonas Brothers are wearing it; it's another reason for a million other girls to start wearing it. I find it to be very appalling that the government has spent 1.5 billion dollars on abstinence programs. That sounds completely useless, they're better off feeding the needy. A ring does not take control of your mindset, it might impact the conscience of the teens wearing it but i doubt it's highly influential. The Jonas Brothers have a huge impact on preteens and if they pledge to remain virgins until marriage then hopefully many will follow after their example but time can only tell. Sources say Britney Spears pledged to remain a virgin until she wed but she didn't keep her word, and the world was shocked. I believe that adolescents should be taught to wait, when it comes to having sex but wearing an abstinence ring won't guarantee the patience because it's the psychological thought, not the physical appearance, that will impact their decision.

  2. I am confused by your opinion on this topic. Why is it so terrble that teens want to openly display their chastity as an attempt to keep their promises to themselves?
